Ivy Koek of SGI participated in the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Beijing+25 Regional Review Meeting held on 29-30 October at the Palais de Nations. The meeting provided a forum for UNECE Member States to review progress and identify challenges in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, and 51 national reports were submitted. A Civil Society Forum was held at the International Conference Center Geneva on 28 October during which time recommendations based on 30 working groups (24 different themes and 6 regions) were compiled. Participants of the forum discussed and consolidated key recommendations based on fact sheets that were drafted over a process of several months by working group members. These recommendations served to guide advocacy efforts throughout the two days of the intergovernmental meetings including its side events. SGI contributed to the Women, Peace and Security Working Group which in part read: “We demand the expansion of the definition of security to include and focus on human security, with categories such as environmental and food security.”
