In Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment by SGI OUNA

CSW61 on the priority theme “Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Changing World of Work” took place from 13-24 March 2017 at UN Headquarters with over 4,000 participants.  SGI co-organized a parallel event titled “Inclusive & Transformative Leadership for Women’s Economic Empowerment” on 17 March with the World YWCA, Graduate Women International, the Global Movement for the Culture of Peace, and Soroptimist International. In his keynote speech, Former Under-Secretary General and High Representative of the United Nations, Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury called on everyone to raise the alarm on the global pay gap and shared his perspective on leadership as “teamwork” and sees all individuals as leaders. A UN Women representative spoke about their online movement, Empower Women–a global platform for sharing stories and the World YWCA Global Agenda was spoken of by a representative.
