SGI participated in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from 9 to 18 July at the UN Headquarters in New York.
On 11 July, the SGI joined the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE), Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the UN (CoNGO), Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), Asia Development Alliance (ADA), General Board of Church and Society (GBCS), and the Episcopal Church Center in organizing a side event titled “Education to End Inequality and Promote Peace”.
As Sustainable Development Goal 4 was up for review for the first time since the 2030 Agenda was adopted in 2015, it was considered a momentous year for the education constituency worldwide. At the event the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Spotlight Reports on SDG 4 from 16 countries in Asia Pacific were launched and handed over to Jordan Naidoo, Director of the Division for Education 2030 Support and Coordination of UNESCO. During the Parallel Sessions, Alexandra Goossens-Ishii and Hiro Sakurai of SGI facilitated a session on peace education and the culture of peace.
Additionally, SGI showcased the panels from its various exhibitions related to SDG 4.7 at the UN Headquarters during the HLPF.
